Contact Services
At Lyons Optometry we offer a large variety of contact lenses that include soft contact lenses, contacts for astigmatism, colored lenses, and bifocal/multifocal lenses. We can evaluate your needs to determine what modality contact lens would be best for your eyes and lifestyle, whether that be a daily, weekly, or monthly contact lens.
A thorough contact lens fitting/evaluation starts with a comprehensive eye exam to make sure your prescription is up to date and rule out any possible conditions that would interfere with your contact lens wear and success with contacts.
Depending on your lifestyle needs and overall shape and health of your eye, we will determine the best fitting contact lens for you. In most cases, you will have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your eye exam. You may also be able to go home with trial samples before finalizing your contact lens prescription, to ensure the prescription and comfort of the lenses are working for you. If you have not worn contact lenses before and would be a new wearer, Dr. Lyons will need to order trial samples based on your prescription, we will then schedule another appointment for your contact lens fitting.
A contact lens follow-up after the initial contact lens fitting is important, just in case we need to make any necessary changes in the fit or prescription. We want to provide you with the best fit possible. We take our time to properly teach all of our contact lens wearers about proper contact lens care and the consequences if proper care is not taken. It is important to continue with long-term follow-up to monitor the condition of the contacts and make sure proper hygiene is being practiced.
Disposable Contacts
Daily contact lenses are disposable, single-use contacts that you throw away after you are done wearing them. They are superior in comfort; they are also breathable and hassle-free. Since dailies are only worn for one day, there is a lot less build-up on the contacts. This reduces many complications that often result from over-wearing your contacts. Daily contact lenses are great for people with dry eye or allergies!
Contact lens exams
A routine eye exam does not provide some of the measurements and testing that are needed to determine if your eyes are a good candidate for contact lenses. The contact lens exam is typically a separate charge from your annual eye exam.
Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses
Bifocal and multifocal lenses are also available in many contact lens brands, including soft and hard lenses. These lenses provide a great option for someone who doesn’t like the inconvenience of reading glasses and needs vision correction for both near and far.
Mono-Vision Contacts
Monovision means wearing one contact lens that corrects only distance vision in one eye and wearing another lens that corrects only near vision in the other eye. This has been a popular way to correct presbyopia for contact lens wearers.
Gas Permeable (GP) Contact Lenses
GP or Gas Permeable contacts are rigid lenses made of durable plastic with high oxygen permeability. GP contact lenses offer crisp vision, but are not as popular as well-known soft lenses.
Contact Lenses for the "Hard-to-Fit" Patient
Conditions such as astigmatism, presbyopia, dry eye, and keratoconus require more time and patience when choosing the correct contact lens fit, but that does not mean you would not be successful with contacts!
